Introduction

Welcome to the Moggill State School Playgroup, a warm, welcoming, and community‑focused space where young children can play, learn, and explore alongside their parents and supported by our playgroup coordinator, Amanda Scarisbrick, and volunteer teacher aide Rosemary Holliman. Our playgroup provides a relaxed environment that encourages early social development, builds confidence, and helps children become familiar with a school setting long before they begin formal schooling. It's also a wonderful opportunity for parents to connect, share experiences, and build supportive friendships within the Moggill community.

We aim to create a positive, inclusive, and engaging experience for all families who join us each week.

Why Playgroup is valuable

1. Social and Emotional Development

Playgroup gives children the chance to interact with other kids of different ages and stages. Through shared play, they learn important skills such as taking turns, communicating, cooperating, and building early friendships. These experiences strengthen emotional wellbeing and help children feel secure in group environments.

2. Learning Through Play

Play‑based experiences nurture curiosity, creativity, problem‑solving, and early literacy and numeracy skills - all in ways that feel enjoyable and natural for young children. Activities may include craft, sensory play, outdoor exploration, music, and imaginative play.

3. Smooth Transition to School

Attending playgroup on school grounds helps children feel comfortable in a school environment. They become familiar with the routines, sights, and sounds of school life, making the Prep transition less overwhelming for both children and parents.

4. Parent Connection and Community

Playgroup isn't just for children. It's a community for parents too. It offers a supportive place to meet other local families, share ideas, ask questions, and feel connected to the school community from the very beginning.

Important Information

Session Information

Playgroup is held in our Hall (OSHC Room) each Wednesday from Week 2 to Week 10 in Terms 1, 2 and 3, and from Week 2 to Week 9 in Term 4.

We offer two sessions:

  • Morning: 9:00am – 11:00am
  • Afternoon: 12:45pm – 2:45pm

Cost

Moggill State School proudly funds the playgroup coordinator and provides all resources for our sessions.

We simply ask families to contribute $2 per child (from 12 months of age) per session to help support ongoing supplies and activities.

Babies under 12 months attend free of charge.

Parental Responsibility

Parents and carers must supervise and remain responsible for their own children at all times while attending playgroup.

Insurance

  • Queensland state schools do not provide accident insurance for students or children who are not enrolled.
  • This applies to playgroup attendees.
  • Parents are responsible for any costs associated with injury or accidents.
