TV, Video Games, Ipads, Computers, Smart Phones, we are constantly within reach of a screen and our children are growing up in a world where screen time is part of their everyday life rather than a 30 minute a day luxury (which was my experience as a child). As I talk with our students at play time I am often hearing about some of the games being played online. As with most things there are risks and benefits with online gaming and social media use, as parents I encourage you to be well-informed on what your child is engaging with and what 'Healthy Use' in this space looks like. A resource to help parents become informed about healthy use is available on the 'Centre on Media and Child Health' webpage. Please go to www.cmch.tv/parents/ to become informed on what your child is investing their time in. This website is hosted by Dr. Michael Rich, MD, MPH, Pediatrician and self-confessed media enthusiast.
