Sports

Moggill State School has a strong sporting tradition and prides itself on promoting participation, teamwork and sportsmanship. The school has excellent sporting facilities including a multi-purpose hall that allows activity to continue throughout all weather conditions. Students participate in weekly PE lessons with a specialist PE teacher. Lessons address a range of physical skills throughout the year with learning experiences designed for students to achieve success and develop a lasting positive attitude towards physical activity.  The main focus in the lower school is the development of basic skills and movement patterns whilst in the upper school the focus shifts to exposing students to a broader range of physical activities and learning more advanced sports specific skills. External sporting groups are engaged in PE lessons at various stages throughout the year to assist with students' skill development. These include QLD Tennis, AFL QLD, NRL, QLD Rugby, and QLD Baseball. Many of these sporting groups also offer outside school hours sporting programs for students of all ages on the school grounds.

Swimming

During term 4, students in Years 1 – 6 participate in swimming lessons as part of the HPE Program. Lessons are delivered by fully qualified staff at Bellbowrie Pool and the PE Specialist. Students travel to and from the pool by bus. Payment and parental permission is required at the end of term 3, and covers the cost of pool entry, lessons and bus travel.

Inter-School Sport and Representative Pathways

Moggill State School is a member of the West Akuna Schools Sport District which is affiliated with the Met West School Sport Region and QLD School Sport.

Students in Years 5 and 6 participate in the West Akuna District's Inter-school Sport winter and summer seasons. Moggill State School aims to participate in at least three of the sports on offer in each of the seasons. Participation in these competitions allows students the opportunity to represent their school whilst learning valuable skills in teamwork and sportsmanship.

Students aged 10 – 12 Years have the opportunity to participate in school-based trials in a range of sports to determine their eligibility to enter the QLD School Sport Representative Pathway. The pathway consists of West Akuna District Trials, Met West Regional Trials, QLD State Trials and National Trials. Students who demonstrate above average ability in a particular sport are invited to attend the corresponding West Akuna District Trial and have the opportunity to advance through the pathway. A calendar of events is included on this website.
